Bagel Boomerang

Kids Recipe Challenge Winning Recipe: 2nd Place!  [School day snacks: Grades 4 to 6]

This simple and delicious snack is easy to make and enjoy. Maya, from Windsor, thinks kids will like this recipe because the ingredients go really well together and it is fun to make.

Makes: 1 bagel 

Tips

  1. To keep the bagel crisp, you can melt the cheese in a toaster oven in a small baking pan.

Ingredients

Apple 1/2 
Avocado (optional) 1/2
Carrots 1/4 cup (60 mL), about 1 small 
Multigrain bagel

1 thin

Cheddar cheese

1 slice (25 g)

Raisins or dried cranberries                             

2 Tbsp (30 mL) 

Directions

  1. Wash hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Clean all countertops and equipment used for food preparation.      

  2. Gently rinse apple and avocado (if using) under cool running water. Core and slice the apple. Dice avocado; set aside. Scrub carrot with a clean vegetable brush under cool running water, then grate; set aside. 

  3. Toast bagel and place halves on a plate. 

  4. Place apple on bagel. Cut cheese into strips to place on top of apple. Microwave for about 30 seconds or until cheese is melted. 

  5. Sprinkle with carrots, avocado and raisins.
